Independent Senior Living & Active Retirement Living

Independent Senior Living and active retirement living is a decision not to take lightly. Effective tools are needed to arrive at sound and sensible decisions. Changes are inevitable, but how you arrive at those decisions can be a series of simple tests you perform on yourself. It doesn't have to be complicated or even sophisticated to work.

The important thing is that if this is a time of change, I am here to help you make informed decisions. It's a simple process, really. You must accept age the way it comes, or gradually and carefully change it the way you want it to be.

Another way to break this down is to take a “One More, One Less” approach to life and weigh the results against each other. You've probably done this all your life with "pros" and "cons" lists, right? This effective little tool is good for arriving at any decision, but it is effective for independent senior living, too. It works by a series of checks and balances. Try it. For example

  • ONE MORE block to walk
  • ONE LESS tv program to watch
  • ONE MORE smile at a stranger
  • ONE LESS angry outburst just because you felt like it
  • ONE MORE minute on the treadmill
  • ONE LESS cookie after dinner
  • ONE MORE time up the stairs
  • ONE LESS time having someone get it for you
  • ONE MORE bottle of water today
  • ONE LESS cocktail tonight

See how it works? Now you do some about your senior independent living ideas. Write them down, commit to the list. Add (One More) each day and erase one (One Less), too. One more smile, one less tear. One more day of happy, and one less day of sad.

Once you start, you won’t want to quit. It’s a wonderful way to make decisions, shed stress in your life, learn to forgive yourself and others, and lead you to an uncompromised decision about yourself and your life in the weeks, months, and years ahead. Sharing your thoughts about your independent senior living ideas is empowering and gratifying to yourself and to others.
